Wearing time: shift, break, recovery
Respiratory protection is a burden: breathing resistance rises, and it gets warm and humid under the mask. DGUV Rule 112-190 (Germany) therefore sets wearing time limits and recovery times per device type. They are fixed in the risk assessment and recorded in the operating instructions. Heavy work and heat shorten the wearing time.
When to replace the mask
- Breathing resistance rises noticeably because the filter clogs.
- The mask is wet, deformed, damaged or visibly dirty.
- A tight seal can no longer be achieved, for example because a strap has stretched.
- Odour or taste gets through. Leave the area.
- The shift is over: for NR masks that is the limit.
NR or R: may I use the mask again?
NR masks are intended for one shift; all AirGuard Pro disposable masks are NR D. After the shift they go in the waste. Only masks expressly marked R are reusable, and only as the instructions for use describe. If you have to change masks often, a half mask with replaceable filters is the better choice. Shelf life and storage
- The expiry date is printed on the pack and applies to the unopened original pack.
- Store dry, clean, protected from frost and light, not in a hot vehicle.
- Take masks out of the wrapping only just before use.
- Do not use after the expiry date.
Frequently asked questions
How long may I wear an FFP2 mask?
An NR mask at most one shift, with the breaks and recovery times set in the risk assessment under DGUV Rule 112-190. If breathing gets hard or the mask is wet or damaged, replace it sooner.
How long are FFP masks good for?
Until the expiry date on the pack, if stored unopened and dry.
May I put an NR mask back on after a break?
Within the same shift only if it is dry, undamaged and clean and seals properly. A new mask is the safe choice.
